I read it differently   Written by Christopher (6/10/2007 3:19 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Not quite the phrase, penned by Adrian
Are you new?

"...and from her correspondence with her sister, there was still less to be learnt -- for her letters to Kitty, though rather longer, were much too full of lines under the words to be made public.

The point is that there was not much in the letters to Kitty that could be shared. Since the letter was "full of lines under the words," if the text were to suggest that the lines were under the words to be made public then there would be much to be shared in those letters IMHO.

I believe that there was very little that could be shared because the underlined parts could not be.
