More on gratitude?   Written by Marie C (6/7/2007 1:56 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Two sources of affection, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

I felt the same when I first read P&P at 20. Now, many many years later, I always find JA's analysis of Elizabeth's feelings in this passage touching and penetrating.

Once her prejudices about Darcy had been cleared, Elizabeth is able to see him as he is, and feels grateful to be loved by such a man, with so many outstanding qualities (including his house! :D).

Besides, it is universally acknowledged that being loved by someone puts you well into the path of returning his/her affection - provided of course there is nothing objectionable agaisnt the person. Examples from other JA novels come to my mind, but I shall refrain! ;)
