I do think Elizabeth was being obtuse for another reason   Written by Tracy W (6/6/2007 5:23 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Low-key is one thing..., penned by Line
Are you new?

Darcy danced with Elizabeth at the Netherfield Ball, and he appears to have danced with no other Hertfordshire lady. (Elizabeth made no answer, and took her place in the set, amazed at the dignity to which she was arrived in being allowed to stand opposite to Mr. Darcy, and reading in her neighbours' looks their equal amazement in beholding it.) (chpt 18).

Given that, I do think Elizabeth was being a bit obtuse in laughing at the idea that Darcy could be in love with her. It would have made more sense to consider Charlotte's hypothesis rather than reject it out of hand.

I will never attempt to defend Darcy's skill at courting, but I can't think of an explanation for the fact that Darcy's conversation during his third walk with Elizabeth implying she would be staying at Rosings in future visits to Kent, than that he is thinking of Elizabeth being married to him.
