in teh North West of England, now Cumbria,but in teh 18th cnetury Westmoreland and Cumberland.

I'll see if I can scan in an authentic 18th century map later( after dinner!) but for now heres a link to a website which will give you some idea of the geography.

New Cumbria- Old Cumberland etc
