Clarification   Written by Ramya (6/5/2007 10:11 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, You can love someone and still hurt them, penned by Tracy W
Are you new?

I only gave my definition of the words I am using so that my points are clear, not to give their 'true' meanings. :)

Much as Darcy thinks he is love with her, I don't agree it is love. It definitely has the potential to be such, but only when he stops thinking about his own struggles and feelings alone
and starts treating her with the respect she deserves, will it really turn to love.

The fact that he didn't think he was hurting Elizabeth does not excuse his behaviour with me. Perfect behaviour all the time is not necessary, IMO, and like you say, people do misintepret, ignore, or quarrel pointlessly with their partners, but Lizzy was not yet his partner when he proposed. To propose without even the pretense of a courtship was, IMHO, the height of arrogance, not love.
