He is in control most of the time, except when he cannot contain himself any longer (during his proposal). Yet with Elizabeth, he falls very quickly... this smacks of chemistry. Plain old fashioned lust (if I may be so bold). Yet he is also deliberate and very disapproving of rampant emotions. He is by all accounts a gentleman and must behave in a gentlemanly way... So I suppose, I am just wondering whether it was not something less than love.. maybe a desire to possess this strong-minded beauty?

Then again, maybe I am being too cynical....
