Blushing   Written by Line (6/3/2007 8:19 p.m.)
Are you new?

One thing I noticed in ch.43 was JA's description of Elizabeth and Darcy's meeting:

They were within twenty yards of each other, and so abrupt was his appearance that it was impossible to avoid his sight. Their eyes instantly met, and the cheeks of each were overspread with the deepest blush. He absolutely started, and for a moment seemed immoveable from surprise; but shortly recovering himself.

Actors can do an excellent job of portraying all the rest, but unfortunately they can't blush on command. According to JA's description, Elizabeth and Darcy don't just go a little pink, they both turn beet red! Darcy is described as blushing again later in the chapter when Bingley's name comes up.

[Elizabeth's] thoughts were instantly driven back to the time when Mr. Bingley's name had been last mentioned between them; and, if she might judge from [Darcy's] complexion, his mind was not very differently engaged.

I have a feeling that Darcy does not blush very easily, and here it is happening to him twice in one day!
