Acknowledged favourite   Written by Lisa Beth (6/2/2007 1:19 p.m.)
Are you new?

In Darcy's letter to Elizabeth in Chapter 35, he refers to Wickham as Mr. Darcy's "acknowledged favourite." Does this mean that Darcy's father liked George Wickham and considered him "a" favourite in general, or is Darcy saying that his father favoured Wickham over himself? If the latter is true, could it be that this was "acknowledged" or openly admitted by Mr. Darcy? Unkind, at best! Thoughts please!
