I think Mr. Darcy would CERTAINLY not have stayed, for the reasons you have written, and for the reason that he LOVED her. Now that he knows how Elizabeth really feels about him, he cannot bear to cause her, or himself for that matter, any more distress. He just wants it to be over.

"If your abhorrence of me should make my assertions valueless..."

Writing THAT to Elizabeth must have been extremely painful for him. He just wants it to be OVER; he's given up hope.
