I think it is both actually. Lizzy does not want to explain her melancholy and she does feel a sense of duty to be pleasant to her companions. I think “repressing such reflections as must make her unfit for conversation” is aimed at being pleasant to others. I see no conflict in her acting for both reasons. ;D
