Burgess’s valuable and extensive library is in High Street near the market and has attached to it a good shop well supplied with stationary, jewellery, toys etc

I think Lydia is just a magpie of a girl, attracted to anything shiny,( officers braid included) and the small pieces of jewellrey and toys( which at this time and in this context meant objects like snuff boxes, not playthings for children) would appeal ro her, no doubt.
