I cannot understand so well Lizzy's turmoil ...   Written by Kris L (5/30/2007 12:38 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Quote Chapter 36, penned by Carolyn
Are you new?

Is it just the case that Regency's sensibilities were different from ours? Suppose you kind of liked a guy who worked in the next department, and he told you his boss had not promoted him b/c he was mean. Then, you find out that his boss has a crush on you, and the boss proceeds to tell you that the guy you liked had done something unethical - maybe cheated a customer out of something. Would you find such a discovery earth shattering?

The most important discovery is that Darcy is in love with her. She disliked him even before Wickham's accusations and learning of his role in separating Jane and Bingley. Discovering Wickham's duplicity should not be so unsettling, since she already suspected him of being a mercenary. Why is she so perturbed?
