The demands of different media?   Written by Tracy W (5/28/2007 6:56 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, A difference between the novel and P&P2, penned by Line
Are you new?

I suspect the difference may be due to the demands of different media. If Darcy had been far away on stage, he'd have had to called Elizabeth's name, then been a pause while he walked across the park, then he handed the letter to her. The pause could have been treated by a cut, but it flows more simply just to have Darcy right there and able to call Elizabeth's name and give the letter in pretty much one movement.

In a novel of course JA can cover large amounts of time in a single sentence.
