Mr. Bennet's comment about Wickham...   Written by Emmy (5/27/2007 12:20 a.m.)
Are you new?

Also in Ch 24, Mr. Bennet makes a joke to Elizabeth about being crossed in love and being jilted by Wickham.

"Let Wickham be your man. He is a pleasant fellow, and would jilt you creditably."

I wonder, was there anything to Mr B's comment beyond sarcasm? Why does he think Wickham would be the type of man to jilt a respectable young lady? Has he grown a bit suspicious of W's manner?
