I'm sure Darcy was used to being upstaged at social events by Bingley's affability, and I'm not sure prettiness was Darcy's ultimate goal in a dance partner. It only became a factor when he did not know what kind of mind and temper the young lady had; thus Lizzy's looks were not temptation enough to be stuck with a young lady whose temper might be like her mother's, for example, especially since she was not of the highest circles outside the Meryton community.
