The friendly unavailable Colonel   Written by John S2 (5/25/2007 7:15 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Good point, Line, penned by Cathy Allen
Are you new?

You don't suppose this could be the who? We are not told so. But, he makes every effort to befriend Elizabeth during his stay at Rosings. He is close family and shares the guardianship of Darcy's sister Georgiana with Darcy. In P&P2 Colonel Fitwilliam starts the conversation off at his first meeting with Elizabeth with something like, "I've heard much of you and none of the praise is exaggerated I assure you". I don't find this wording in the book so perhaps it cannot be considered here as evidence. But, if it were to be considered, who would have told him?

He is the only person I can think of in the story who would have been available to counsel Darcy about Elizabeth.
