I think you may be right. I'm of the opinion (sort of) that Mr. Darcy is pretty much a loner. His social skills are somewhat lacking because he doesn't get around a lot. Not that he's a recluse, just that he's not into society very much. ALthough the Colonel did speak of his knowledge on the subject... We just don't know much more, though.
