Does Charlotte misconstrue Lizzy, or...   Written by Adrian (5/24/2007 12:55 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, How well does Charlotte know Elizabeth?, penned by Line
Are you new?

...can she simply not predict

(1) how clumsy Darcy will be in letting her know he is in her power
(2) that Darcy's role in the Bingley/Jane split-up will come to light just before Darcy chooses to make his feelings known?

Granted, Lizzy's mistrust of Darcy over the Wickham story is a major impediment, but we cannot know how large an impediment that alone would have been apart from the rest of the proposal train wreck.

Granted, Charlotte does not know Lizzy perfectly; but it may be that what she does not know about Darcy is more of a blindness in her prediction than what she does not know about Lizzy. I am not sure Charlotte thinks Lizzy will ever stop being a romantic unless she grows desperate.
