29: "[Y]our Ladyship can hardly expect me to own it."   Written by Silvia O (5/23/2007 5:21 p.m.)
Are you new?

Firstly, I beg leave to apologise for my stupid question which must have been asked a hundred times in the past. I searched the P&P boards archive but could not find anything...

I have never really understood what Lizzy meant when, on being asked her age by Lady C, she said (chapter 29):
With three younger sisters grown up," replied Elizabeth smiling, "your ladyship can hardly expect me to own it.

Any thoughts?
