Lady Catherine's Resume   Written by Carolyn (5/21/2007 10:20 p.m.)
Are you new?

Lady Catherine certainly has a vast and varied resume.

Household Organizer

where [Lady Catherine] had perfectly approved all the alterations he had been making, and had even vouchsafed to suggest some herself, -- some shelves in the closets up stairs." -- Chapter 14

Fashion Maven

Lady Catherine is far from requiring that elegance of dress in us which becomes herself and daughter. I would advise you merely to put on whatever of your clothes is superior to the rest -- there is no occasion for anything more. Lady Catherine will not think the worse of you for being simply dressed. She likes to have the distinction of rank preserved." Chapter 28

Tour Guide

After sitting a few minutes they were all sent to one of the windows to admire the view, Mr. Collins attending them to point out its beauties, and Lady Catherine kindly informing them that it was much better worth looking at in the summer. Chapter 28

Party Planner

and every dish was commended, first by him and then by Sir William, who was now enough recovered to echo whatever his son in law said, in a manner which Elizabeth wondered Lady Catherine could bear. But Lady Catherine seemed gratified by their excessive admiration, and gave most gracious smiles, especially when any dish on the table proved a novelty to them. Chapter 28

Barnyard Specialist

She inquired into Charlotte's domestic concerns familiarly and minutely, and gave her a great deal of advice as to the management of them all; told her how everything ought to be regulated in so small a family as her's, and instructed her as to the care of her cows and her poultry. Chapter 28

Educational Advisor

"Ay, no doubt; but that is what a governess will prevent, and if I had known your mother, I should have advised her most strenuously to engage one. I always say that nothing is to be done in education without steady and regular instruction, and nobody but a governess can give it. Chapter 28

Corporate Headhunter

It was wonderful how many families I have been the means of supplying in that way. I am always glad to get a young person well placed out. Four nieces of Mrs. Jenkinson are most delightfully situated through my means; and it was but the other day that I recommended another young person, who was merely accidentally mentioned to me, and the family are quite delighted with her. Chapter 28

Card Shark

Lady Catherine was generally speaking -- stating the mistakes of the three others, or relating some anecdote of herself. Chapter 28

Weather Forecaster

The party then gathered round the fire to hear Lady Catherine determine what weather they were to have on the morrow. -- Chapter 28

Needlework Expert

She examined into their employments, looked at their work, and advised them to do it differently; Chapter 29

Interior Designer

found fault with the arrangement of the furniture, Chapter 29

House Inspector

detected the housemaid in negligence Chapter 29

Food Critic

if she accepted any refreshment, seemed to do it only for the sake of finding out that Mrs. Collins's joints of meat were too large for her family. Chapter 29

Village Magistrate

she was a most active magistrate in her own parish, the minutest concerns of which were carried to her by Mr. Collins; and whenever any of the cottagers were disposed to be quarrelsome, discontented, or too poor, she sallied forth into the village to settle their differences, silence their complaints, and scold them into harmony and plenty. Chapter 29

Music Critic

It is of all subjects my delight. I must have my share in the conversation if you are speaking of music. There are few people in England, I suppose, who have more true enjoyment of music than myself, or a better natural taste. If I had ever learnt, I should have been a great proficient . Chapter 31

Piano Teacher

I have told Miss Bennet several times that she will never play really well unless she practices more...Miss Bennet would not play at all amiss if she practised more, and could have the advantage of a London master. She has a very good notion of fingering... Lady Catherine continued her remarks on Elizabeth's performance, mixing with them many instructions on execution and taste. Chapter 31

Remodeling Overseer

This seems a very comfortable house. Lady Catherine, I believe, did a great deal to it when Mr. Collins first came to Hunsford Chapter 32

Did I miss anything?
