Tragic indeed :)   Written by Tracy W (5/20/2007 8:47 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, If Mr. Bennett had not married Mrs Bennett, penned by nan duval
Are you new?

Ah, the difference between understanding P&P on a moral level and understanding it on a literary level. Flawed characters are much more interesting in stories than perfect ones.

And, while I may wish that Mrs Bennet and Mr Bennet had made happier marriages, I would not give up the line
"An unhappy alternative is before you, Elizabeth. From this day you must be a stranger to one of your parents. Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins, and I will never see you again if you do." for worlds.

Luckily he's a fictional character so we can enjoy him without distressing ourselves too much over their faults.
