I entirely recognise that Charlotte did what she thought was best for herself, I have never debated that point, my argument is that, considering the circumstances of the time, she was wrong to think that way. I am firmly of the belief that it is not a matter of "each to their own", and that this is a decision which should be judged one way or another. I consider we have a duty to practice and develop our moral abilities, and practising it on fictional characters who "lived" roughly 200 years ago is far safer than trying to figure everything out from scratch in our own lives.

Apparently you differ from me on the duty of moral judgement. This is your right, and I think we will have to agree to disagree.
