Julie W makes excellent points. However this also reminds me of the fact that the Gardners always spent Christmas with the Bennets which suggests to me that they usually do not spend Christmas with their children. This would be unbelieveable for some modern families, but it says a lot I think for the time parents and children spent together in JA's era.
