with prostitution! I perhaps have not been clear in trying to defend her course of action. I suspect that many women of the time married for the same or similar reasons. Since arranged marriages had been the order of the day not too long previously & probably still currently, she was justified in believing that with hard work & good will one could make a marriage work as long as the partner was not vicious.
