Charlotte and Mr Collins   Written by Susan L (5/19/2007 6:41 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Didn't eliminate gainful employment, penned by Tracy W
Are you new?

Charlotte knew her options and chose the one that fit her views, her opinions and approach to life. To e that is the end of the story. Knowing there are other options, as I'm sure Charlotte was aware of, Charlotte clearly wanted to be married. Believing any of the other options was better than marriage to a bad man (and Mr Collins is not a bad man) does not make Charlotte's choice bad or wrong. It was Charlotte's life and her future and she was clearly satisfied with her choice. And since Mr Collins is 'stupid' rather than bad, and his future was very good by her standards ... if Charlotte wanted to be married and have an establishment of her own (and the measure of the man clearly did not matter to Charlotte in the least) then IMHO Charlotte did particularly well for herself.
