Charlotte's options are so limited that she needs to do whatever necessary to secure her future.

She is a gentlewoman--which seems to eliminate gainful employment as a recourse. I know that the C of E now has nuns but I don't know if they did then--not that I consider the convent the last refuge of spinsters but rather that for some it has been a fruitful alternative to an unappealing marriage.

Anyone have any info on what Charlotte's other choices might include?
