I think Charlotte did the right thing.   Written by Cathy Allen (5/15/2007 2:57 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Charlotte after the proposal, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

I think that one of the most telling lines in Chapter 22 is Charlotte saying:

"I am not romantic, you know; I never was. I ask only a comfortable home..."

I think she's explaining that she's not like Elizabeth, and she never will be. She knows what she wants, and she's now going to have it. She has her eyes wide open.

I had a similar experience with a friend some years ago, and the way I was able to deal with what she did was to realize that I didn't know her as well as I thought, and that her values were not my values. We are still friends, but I had my eyes opened. I feel that Charlotte is trying to help Elizabeth to open her eyes, too.

I think Charlotte did the right thing.
