Caroline Bingley's mean streak   Written by Line (5/14/2007 6:47 p.m.)
Are you new?

When Caroline writes to Jane in ch.21 to tell her about their sudden departure, she adds: "a sister's partiality is not misleading me, I think, when I call Charles most capable of engaging any woman's heart". Of course, the whole letter is painful to Jane, but to me the above is just an extra piece of meanness. Even if Caroline suspects that Jane merely *likes* her brother, this is quite unnecessary, IMO! Rub it in, why don't you? :-(
