as highly exaggerated.

This exaggeration IMO is a result of her own ideas and judgements being thwarted, which seems to make her almost neurotic (like her mother ;-) when things aren't going as she thinks they should.

An example;
"Charlotte the wife of Mr. Collins was a most humiliating picture!"
Humiliating for whom?

To continue;
"And to the pang of a friend disgracing herself and sunk in her esteem ...

Disgracing herself in whose estimation; Lizzy's and perhaps Mr. bennet's?
I really doubt anyone in Meryton thought it a disgrace.
