to her out of all his "supposed loves". He does initially set his mind on Jane, from the first, but is told by Mrs Bennet she is spoken for. Then he decides on a whisker's notice that he liked Lizzy.

And then, after the refusal, he decides as swiftly as he can manage, on Charlotte. He does end up with the one who is most like him, that is, most aligned to harmonious living with him and his values. And in a sense, Lizzy and Charlotte weren't his first preferred choices, Jane was!
