Are you new?

It is pretty horrifying that flogging would be spoken of so lightly... it was a horrible punishment that sometimes resulted in death. Not that I think that today's society is much more sensitive. But it makes me wonder if privates were even considered as human beings, being from the lower classes. I also wonder if JA meant for idle talk about flogging to be a sign of gauchness.
