My favorite bit(s)   Written by Kathi (5/13/2007 7:50 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, The Proposal, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

I like the line you quoted, too, and was particularly struck by it this time.

My favorite bit, though, has always been (when Mr. Collins lists his reasons for marrying) "and thirdly -- which perhaps I ought to have mentioned earlier, that it is the particular advice and recommendation of the very noble lady whom I have the honour of calling patroness."

Isn't that what any woman wants to hear as a potential husband's most important reason for marrying?

Can I have two favorite bits? (This is such a great scene that it's impossible to choose just one.) I also love Mr. Collins' closing salvo, after Lizzy has unequivocally refused him: "You are uniformly charming!" cried he, with an air of awkward gallantry; "and I am persuaded that, when sanctioned by the express authority of both your excellent parents, my proposals will not fail of being acceptable."
