The Proposal   Written by Cheryl (5/13/2007 1:14 a.m.)
Are you new?

I hoot all through this proposal, and to Elizabeth's credit - or maybe she's just her father's daughter - she is also "divided between distress and diversion. "

There are lots of funny and outrageous statements in Mr Collins's speech. My favorite bit is

your wit and vivacity, I think, must be acceptable to her, especially when tempered with the silence and respect which her rank will inevitably excite. (ch. 19)

Yes. "wit and vivacity" is often "tempered with silence."

What's your favorite bit?
