I am not sure where I was too critical of Darcy as you do not say but I do agree Lizzy trusts Wickham too much too soon. She does not see the inconsistencies in his story—for example: he says he will not out Darcy but is in fact doing so at that moment. However, IMO Lizzy’s trust is not completely based on his handsome face and nice manners—that was my point. Her trust also arises from the idea that he is a gentleman; he has proven it by his behavior where Darcy did not. When you point out the situations where Darcy is trying, I agree with you that he is. I just do not agree it was obvious to Lizzy. Yes, I am in amiable disagreement with you on some points but I am glad to know not all. ;D
