Line, I don't think it can be too long that Mr Collins has been at Hunsford. At the beginning of Ch 14 we read "... She had been graciously pleased to approve of both the discourses which he had already had the honour of preaching before her. She had also asked him twice to dine at Rosings, ..." (bold highlights mine). Taking "both" to be two, I suggest a couple of months for his tenure at Hunsford. There is no mention of any other clergy serving in the parish, so I'm assuming that Mr Collins is solely responsible for Hunsford. Did people at the time go to church every week or was it a once a month occurrence? If monthly and Lady Catherine attended each service, then he would have been at Hunsford for about two months. If more often, do we assume that Lady Catherine does not attend services very often? Perhaps she feels it necessary to only grace the place with her presence every so often! Or would there be other parishes in her gift that she would attend? Or would a family like the de Bourgh's worship at the same place? Also, one would think that Lady Catherine wouldn't be granting Mr Collins leave too soon after arriving; he must have done sufficiently well to be allowed to go.
