...Darcy, I don't think she would have even given him credit for gallantry in the scene on the path with Bingley's sisters, and yet she did.

In fact, it would take more than a few days and inconsistent behavior, but this suggests to me that Darcy might have had a chance to change her mind about him at that point, given more time and more consistent behavior.

Of course, part of the problem was Darcy didn't really want to change her mind. He may have become attracted to her, and he may even have acknowledged her understanding, but he had no intention of marrying her because of her low relations, and he very much wanted to avoid giving any impression that he did.
