] When Darcy ignores Elizabeth in chapter 16, his actions are strange and antisocial but not out of character. Elizabeth does not know that he is intentionally ignoring her and refusing to look at her.

Elizabeth does not need to know what is "typical" of Darcy to know what to expect from a gentleman. A gentleman would make some attempt at pleasant conversation and making his companion feel at ease (and by this I don't mean chattering to her the whole time they are together). I'd like to come back to this with more evidence later in the GR, actually.
