in consequence of the missive, Fascinating post, Robbin--two observations, penned by Adrian
I think the conservation in Chapter 11 is as close to an actual argument that Lizzy and Darcy get at Netherfield; how about they are trading unflattering “observations” about each other. (;D) Another point is that each has it slightly wrong. Darcy does not actually “hate” everyone and Lizzy does not “purposely misunderstand” everyone. It is a good point that they have observed each other so closely. Their observations are tinged by their point of view which has not changed very much over the past few chapters. Lizzy comes away with further proof that Darcy is a disagreeable ill-natured fellow and he comes away more attracted to her than ever. Lizzy’s resistance and opposition only encourages his attraction to her; he has been complacent about Lizzy since chapter 6, he thinks she understands his attentions and I to wonder at his smiling at this point. Does it indicate, hey I have an observation for you too or he thinks Lizzy is teasing him a bit or is it just general appreciation of her spirit? ;D Thanks!
