Chapter 14 Miss de Bourgh   Written by Felicia (5/8/2007 11:00 a.m.)
Are you new?

The Bennet's are dining with Mr. Collins. Mr. Collins is talking about Lady Catherine and Mrs. Bennet asks if she has family. Mr. Collins describes Miss de Bourgh and states...."She is unfortunately of a sickly constitution, which has prevented her making that progress in many accomplishments which she could not otherwise have failed of".....

a few minutes later Mrs Bennet asked if she has been presented at court. Mr. Collins states....."Her indifferent state of health unhappily prevents her being in town"......

Everytime I read this I stop for a moment and ponder over Miss de Bough's illness/affliction. The first quote makes me wonder if she suffers from some type of mild handicap. The second quote, could be something like asthma that would keep her from town. Would something like asthma keep her from making progress in accomplishments though? Has anyone else pondered over Miss de Bourgh's affliction? If so, what are your thoughts?
