Are you new?

...because we actually are told that Wickham and Denny "turn back", plus the visit by the Bennet girls and Mr. Collins sounds like it takes about 15 minutes, not an hour.

I agree there is something peculiar about Denny and Wickham doing this--are they simply killing time, waiting for Lydia to show up?

There could be other explanations, but that seems the most likely at this stage of the story, based on what we know.
