What an interesting stricture against verses   Written by Tracy W (5/7/2007 4:39 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Fordyce's Sermons, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

Thanks very much for posting this Julie W. It's very interesting to read some actual sermon. I wonder how much of this Mr Collins got when he had with very monotonous solemnity read three pages - perhaps he thought he was supporting his voice with "flrmness and simplicity".

I'm curious about one thing. As far as I can tell, at the end Forydce is arguing against young women reciting verses except in very small, select groups. I wonder why? Is this Lord Byron's influence?
