in consequence of the missive, I think she was simply pointing out, penned by nan duval
was trying to make the men see how ridiculous their expectations were. But CB apparently feels that Lizzy was trying to "recommend" herself to Darcy (whom CB herself would like to have), by undervaluing her fellow women. And since Darcy is the person "to whom this remark was chiefly addressed", could CB already suspect an interest on either part?
Isn't it funny how when Lizzy says to the men "I never saw such a woman. I never saw such capacity, and taste, and application, and elegance, as you describe united", that the sisters "both cried out against the injustice of her implied doubt, and were both protesting that they knew many women who answered this description". Undoubtedly, they felt, or liked to feel, that they, themselves answer that description!
