I think when CB claimed,   Written by Donna H (5/5/2007 11:16 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Why tell a falsehood about not being a great reader?, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

and not at all nicely, that Lizzy was such a great reader as to like nothing else, it goaded Lizzy into a denial that was not strictly true. This does not mean that her subsequent words about having pleasure in many things was not true.

I've already gained the impression that Lizzy *may* be quite literate simply from the way we've been led to believe she is in no way a "silly" girl like some of her sisters. And Lizzy already seems to display a common sense and quick wit about her that a well-read person may exhibit. I must admit at this point that these are presumptions on my part! Perhaps Darcy is making the same presumptions?

Despite this, I do see your point that Lizzy may not actually consider herself a *great* reader. More to ponder... : )
