At the Lucas party, Darcy (after conversing briefly with Lizzy and hearing her play) is sorry to see dancing begin because he would prefer more conversation. In the situation you mention at Netherfield Lizzy leaves her reading, preferring conversation.

It is interesting that Lizzy prefers this conversation and the study of real characters to those in books, whereas one may wonder whether her father often prefers the characters in his books to real people, except when they are absurd.
