Are you new?

Maybe the novel should be called "Vanity and Prejudice"? (Doesn't quite roll off the tongue.) Perhaps we are meant to give some thought (as we continue to read) whether Lizzy and Darcy's flaws are pride -- or vanity.

Just because the words are put in the mouth of an unsympathetic character does not mean there is no truth to them, or that the author disagrees.
