Gosh, that's interesting I've never heard of a 'man midwife' before.

I'm so glad Jane survived her fever and the apothecary's medicines too.
In her note to Lizzy, Jane says; 'excepting a sore- throat and head-ache there is not much the matter with me'.
Yet a fever with headache seems fairly dangerous; more than a trifiling little cold.

I like these scans of trade cards with big, scrolly flourishes. :)

Thankyou for these posts- I am now thinking of getting Roy Porter's book.
