Or "socially angry" if you like. BY that I mean that he was not so violently angry so muhc that he wanted to hit someone, but that he wanted the night to continue.

He'd enoyed himself ,had a good time , becaema general favourite in The Company, and had met a very charming girl in Jane Bennet.

I'm sure he didn't want the night to end.
