When I say the he was vulnerable, it does not mean he was covering in fear. I think he just realised his predicament and moved on. I can’t argue this much further since that would include spoilers (same with the perfect indifference bit).
Whether he is displeased about being wrong, or annoyed to be interested in a woman of lower rank, he was smug. It seems that neither predicament brought him too much anguish past the initial mortification.
