Apothecary is really like a pharmacist today. They had medical training and made up medicines and dispensed them.

Doctors or physicians. were fancier beasts altogether! They tended to have practices in towns and were much more expensive.

At the end of chapter 8 Bingley actually suggests calling a physician.
