I have always interpreted the Chapter 4 line as Elizabeth saying that Jane is so sweet-natured and unassuming as to be surprised by receiving compliments; while Elizabeth herself is NOT taken by surprise by receiving compliments because she feels she herself doesn't actually receive any.

As for the Chapter 6 quote, I take that to mean that Lizzy still doesn't even realize that she is becoming an interest to Darcy because she is so caught up in observing Jane's budding romance.
